1. Be sensible about what you need to do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTake a step back and look at the property from a buyer\u2019s point of view,\u201d says Sara. \u201cAsk yourself is it too loud, oppressive, dark or cluttered?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She says it\u2019s important to remove emotion from this thought process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s business. You need to put aside your emotional attachment to your home and the things in it and consider what you can do to attract the highest sale price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enlisting the advice of an expert can help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you can\u2019t afford a real estate stylist, talk to an agent about where you can get the most bang for your buck.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Pack away almost all personal items<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClean up in a big way,\u201d recommends Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou need to create a clean and bare home that potential buyers could imagine moving into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPack up your personal items and put them in storage, it will cost a little bit but will pay off at sale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Repaint<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRepainting is really, really, really worth it,\u201d says Sara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRemove the purple sponge feature walls,\u201d she laughs, \u201cAnd create a blank canvas in a very neutral colour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Invest in carpet cleaning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t cost much and will instantly freshen up your home. If you\u2019ve had pets, this is an absolute must.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
